Slovak Foreign and European Affairs State Secretary František Ružička Meets with the New Ambassador of the Republic of Korea

František Ružička, State Secretary of Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, received Byung Hwa Chung, the designated ambassador of the Republic of Korea today (5 December 2018). The meeting was held on the occasion of ambassador’s presenting copies of his credentials to the State Secretary at the beginning of his mission.

 


State Secretary Ružička deemed the relations with the Republic of Korea to be friendly and based on close positions on international issues. They stated the political dialogue is intensively developing, which was attested to by the first ever visit of the President of the Slovak Republic to the Republic of Korea in April 2018. The two parties also touched upon the strategic partnership of the EU and the Republic of Korea, the planning of possible activities within the V4+Korea format, as well as the cooperation of Slovakia and Korea in supporting candidacies at international organizations.

 

State Secretary Ružička also stated that “the mutual robust trade-and-economic cooperation needs to be extended to other areas including the cooperation in modern technologies, IT, science and technologies and electro mobility.  In the current context of global developments the potential can also be seen in strengthening the resilience against cyber threats.“

 

In the end Ružička appreciated the role of the Republic of Korea and its efforts to de-escalate the tensions and find a diplomatic solution for the situation on the Korean peninsula. He expressed his hope that the talks will go in the direction towards achieving sustainable peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
