MZVEZ SR State Secretary František Ružička Receives Bulgarian Delegation

Today (10 April 2019), František Ružička, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs received the delegation of the Republic of Bulgaria, led by the representative of the Defence Ministry Atanas Zapryanov. The delegation also included Rositsa Velkova, State Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Ivan Naydenov, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other representatives of the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria.
 
The main goal of the working visit was to discuss themes related to the common political interests and possible cooperation in the area of security and defence.
 
Slovakia and Bulgaria have engaged in cooperation in several projects as part of the Pending Structured Cooperation (PESCO), the aim of which it to bring closer, in terms of technology, the arsenal of the armed forces of the EU member states, enhance cooperation and stimulate the European defence industry. The partners agreed that this European Project must be complementary and must take place in a coordinated fashion in NATO. In addition to increasing the funds as part of the North-Atlantic Alliance, it is also equally important to maintain technological links with the US.
 
State Secretary Ružička concluded, “PESCO is a good platform for the further enhancement of cooperation between Slovakia and Bulgaria.” The countries are currently co-laborating in both the project of building a logistic centre for operations and the project of military mobility, which is one of the priorities in the area of cooperation between the NATO and the EU.
 
The partners discussed security and defence themes and also the long-term interest of the Republic of Bulgaria to be incorporated into the Schengen area, the Eurozone and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), where Slovakia currently presides over the ministerial council. State Secretary Ružička declared Slovakia’s straightforward support of the Bulgarian side in terms of its ambitions since these represent important actions for the improvement of the competitiveness of the country as well as its attractiveness for the EU.
