State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Lukáš Parízek, received today (7 March 2019) the designated ambassador of the Columbian Republic in Slovakia, with residence in Vienna, Miguel Camil Ruiz Blanca on the occasion of the ambassador presenting his credentials.

The cooperation of both countries has taken a new shape following the visit of Lukáš Parízek to Columbia in 2018, during which new investment possibilities were discussed. The two countries showed an interest in the enhancement of economic cooperation by organising business missions and intensifying the cooperation of the chambers of commerce, which was confirmed by the presence at the meeting of the Honorary Consul of Columbia Antol Siekel.

Another milestone in the development of bilateral relations will be marked by the forthcoming meeting of Carlos Holmes Trujill Garcia, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Columbia, with Miroslav Lajčák, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic on 12 March 2019, in Bratislava.

At the today’s meeting, the partners paid special attention to regional developments, particularly in the neighbouring Venezuela, and specifically to the impact which the ongoing political and humanitarian crisis in that country is having on the other countries in the neighbourhood. “We appreciate the regional solidarity with Venezuelan refugees and the effort and coordination on the part of the Columbian Republic with regard to the distribution of international humanitarian aid to the population of Venezuela,” stated Lukáš Parízek.

Miguel Camil Ruiz Blanca was also interested in strengthening and enhancing cooperation in the areas of culture, tourism, and education. The partners agreed on the need to increase the creative potential and culture of both nations.
