North Macedonia’s Entry into NATO has already been Ratified by All Member States

17.3.2020 | Slovensko a NATO

With great pleasure, the Slovak Republic received the news that the Protocol on the Accession of the Republic of North Macedonia to the North Atlantic Treaty has now, after a clear vote in the Senate of the Spanish Kingdom, been ratified by the parliaments of all the member states. The NATO enlargement to its 30th member is a confirmation of the fact that the North Atlantic Alliance is a materialisation of the commitment to share values and a common future of the transatlantic community of nations. This further confirms that NATO continues to be the most effective way of guaranteeing the security and defence of the citizens of its member states, and of validating the continuing aspirations of countries to become a NATO member. NATO has been strengthening its enlargement and gradually contributes to the maintaining of security for more than one billion inhabitants of Europe and North America.

In several days, North Macedonia will become a full-fledged member of NATO based on a free decision of its citizens. The accession of North Macedonia to NATO means the finalisation of a process in which the historic Prespa Agreement of June 2018 represents a key building block of stability and peace and an example for other parts of the world of the settlement process related to sensitive issues of the past.
