The Slovak Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs Issues a Statement about Human Rights Day

9.12.2018 | Vyhlásenia a stanoviská ministerstva

The United Nations Organization declared the 10th of December to be international Human Rights Day. In 2018, we are celebrating this day in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Human rights have developed along with the advancement of the society. They reflect the various philosophical, political and legal concepts in the individual countries of the world. This is also how Slovakia perceives human rights in today’s globalized world – a world where it is especially important to maintain the standard for protecting human rights under any circumstances. Slovakia is an active participant in the activities that the international community performs with the aim of fostering democratic principles. We are working towards this aim with respect to the many differences and diverse traditions, however, also with an emphasis on the universality of fundamental human values.  That is the legacy of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and its message to the world today – seventy years after its adoption.
