The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, with full respect and responsibility, takes note of the position of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Harlem Désir on the ongoing legislative process in the National Council of the Slovak Republic, which aims to amend the Slovak Press Act.

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic confirms the Slovak Republic's continuous commitment to the respect and promotion of human rights and fundamental freedoms, including the freedom of the media. The Ministry, also in light of last year's events, reassures that the remarks of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media will be duly taken into account.

The Slovak Republic, as one of the OSCE participating States and as the current Chairmanship of this largest security organization, strongly supports the autonomous mandate of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, his expertise and irreplaceable assistance to participating States, including the Slovak Republic, in creating a favorable environment for truly free, open and safe media.

In this respect, we welcome the readiness of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media to provide his expertise.
