Statement of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic on the Court Trial of the Perpetrators of the Downing of MH17

6.3.2020 | Vyhlásenia a stanoviská ministerstva

The Slovak Republic considers it of extreme importance that the perpetrators of the downing of the Malaysian Airlines Flight MH-17 above Ukraine on 17 July 2014, which resulted in the death of 298 innocent people from several countries, be held legally responsible.

In this regard the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic welcomes the upcoming start of the court trial in the Netherlands on 9 March 2020, which it considers to be an important milestone in the search for truth, that will bring redress to the victims and their families and friends and ensure that the perpetrators of this barbaric act appear in court and be fairly punished.

The Slovak Republic expresses its full confidence in the impartiality and professionalism of the Dutch court. It strongly refuses all accusations of any alleged politicisation of the procedures of the prosecutor’s office or the court.

As for the continuous activities of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT), the Slovak Republic calls upon all countries and other stakeholders to fully cooperate with the investigation in line with the resolution of the UN Security Council.
