The Ambassador of Cyprus expressed his appreciation for the extraordinary and consistent contribution of Slovak diplomacy in assisting the approximation and the growth of confidence between the Greek and Turkish Cypriots. The State Secretary responded by saying that “the Slovak Republic is interested in further being active as a sincere intermediator of the dialogue between the Greek-Cypriot and Turkish-Cypriot political parties, since we are convinced that only through active communication between the two parties is it possible to contribute to the increase of understanding and trust.”

An important part of the Slovak contribution to the building of peace and security in Cyprus is Slovakia’s participation in the UNFICYP peace-keeping mission. As With this being one of its longest lasting missions, the UN has been present on the island since 1964. The Slovak symbol on the uniforms has been proudly worn by both women and men for more than 18 years, and the fact that the UN has entrusted Slovakia with one of the three sectors of operation attests to the credibility of our armed forces.  “Also due to our long-term experiences and sensitive engagement of Slovak professionals, undesirable incidents have been successfully prevented. Therefore, our interest is to further continue in the active participation in the UNFICYP mission and thus to help facilitate a more stable life for both communities on the island,” emphasized the State Secretary Ružička.

Ambassador Nicolaou expressed his conviction that during his upcoming diplomatic mission in the Slovak Republic, he will actively contribute to deepening the partnership cooperation in the political, economic and cultural areas. Tourism plays an important part since Cyprus belongs among the favorite destinations of Slovak citizens.
