The future of the European Union, the status of the Brexit negotiations and migration, as well as other timely issues such as the form of the future EU’s multiannual financial framework and the directive on posting of workers, were the core topics of the meeting of the sherpas and the Visegrad Four (V4) state secretaries in charge of EU affairs on 5 and 6 October in Budapest. The meeting was held upon invitation from the Hungarian State Secretary for EU Affairs at the Prime Minister’s Office, Ferenc Szabolcs Takács. Slovakia was represented in the deliberations by State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs SR, Ivan Korčok.

I am very pleased that the discussion of the future of the EU of last week in Tallinn is back on the most competent platform, namely the level of the EU 27 leaders. Recently we have witnessed numerous ambitious proposals of what the future Union should look like. We must not forget, however, the fundamental accomplishments of the European integration such as the single market and Schengen, and make sure that our citizens can continue fully enjoying them. We, as the V4, clearly acknowledge that,” noted Korčok.
