On Tuesday (October 8, 2019), Lukáš Parízek, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic and Special Representative of the Minister for Slovakia’s Chairmanship in the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, met with Jeffrey Schlagenhauf, Deputy Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), whose portfolio covers public sector governance, the fight against corruption and sustainable development goals.

During the meeting, the partners discussed the overall framework of cooperation between the Slovak Republic and the OECD, with an emphasis on aspects of the development agenda. As part of the discussion, they positively assessed the historic, first chairmanship of the Slovak Republic in the OECD Council at the ministerial level in May 2019, which was held in the year of the Slovak chairmanship in the OSCE, which represents an extraordinary recognition for our country.

Lukáš Parízek referred to the priorities of the Slovak chairmanship in the OSCE, which also include closer cooperation with international institutions. Further, he stated: “Security is an inseparable condition for a quality business environment which is needed to support the development of investments, the increase of productivity, entrepreneurship, private sector development and the building of a knowledge-based economy. It is the second OSCE pillar where I see room for a closer cooperation between the OSCE and OECD.” During the meeting, he thanked Jeffrey Schlagenhauf for the peer-review of the Slovak system of development cooperation, which was the first such review that took place last year. Slovakia used this review in order to prepare  the mid-term development strategy 2019-2023.

Jeffrey Schlagenhauf appreciated Slovakia’s approach to the utilisation of the OECD conclusions regarding projects for the improvement of policies in the economic, social, environmental and digital agendas. This was the first visit of the OECD Deputy Secretary-General to Slovakia. At the invitation of Richard Raši, Deputy Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic for Investments and Informatisation, they together presented the results of the joint project focused on the fight against corruption with the use of structural and investment funds from the European Union, which is a result of a cooperation between Slovakia and the OECD, as declared in the Memorandum of Understanding of 2017.
