Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajčák talked with Majlinda Bregu, Secretary-General of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) today (8 June 2019). The partners exchanged views on the current political situation in the individual countries of the Western Balkans, especially in the light of the enlargement package published by the European Commission at the end of May of this year. Minister Lajčák emphasized the need to support the region in its integration efforts, which Slovakia, as the V4 Presidency country, also expressed at the joint meeting with the Western Balkans countries in Bratislava on 28 May 2019. The Slovak Republic has worked to make the enlargement agenda one of the priorities of the new European Commission.  “We wish that financial resources for enlargement will continue to be allocated in the new EU budget. The enlargement process and the process of reforms in the European Union represent two independent processes that can take place in parallel,” stated Lajčák.

The Secretary-General of the Regional Cooperation Council told the Minister about the current work of the organization and the challenges that lie ahead, as well as the priorities of the South East Europe 2020 strategy that was prepared in the follow-up to the EU vision of the Europe 2020 strategy.

The Regional Cooperation Council was founded in 2008 with the objective of supporting internal reforms and mutual cooperation of the countries in the region.
