Today (29 November 2018) Miroslav Lajčák, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, received Linas Linkevičius, Foreign Affairs Minister of the Republic of Lithuania, who arrived in Slovakia as the head of the Lithuanian delegation participating in the Friends of Cohesion summit in Bratislava.  They assessed the further development of the bilateral relations including the cooperation of both countries in the EU, NATO, as well as other international groupings. They also discussed current foreign policy and European issues. They talked about the future development of the EU also in relation to Brexit, the cooperation with the Eastern Partnership countries, regional cooperation, especially in the Visegrad Four format, which the Slovak Republic is currently chairing, as well as the Nordic-Baltic Eight.  Lajčák also told Linkevičius about Slovakia’s upcoming OSCE Chairmanship, which our country will take over in January 2019, and in the context of which it will–among other things – pay attention to the conflicts in the territory of the participating countries of this organization. In regard to this they also discussed the current incident between the Russian Federation and Ukraine in the Kerch Strait. “It is in our substantive interest that the situation not be further escalated, and we must make maximum efforts to calm it down and persuade both sides to search for solutions through negotiations while adhering to international law. Any further escalation of tensions could have serious political and security impacts for the wider region,” stated Minister Lajčák.
