Minister Lajčák Speaks at Security Conference in Beladice

Today (11 April 2019), Miroslav Lajčák, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic delivered a speech as one of the keynote speakers at the 4th meeting of the Slovak defence and security community that is taking place in Beladice. This year, the conference, with the title “Together on Security and Defence”, focuses on the evaluation of the current state of security in the world and its implications for Slovakia. More than 70 participants from the academic community, the private sector, NGOs and the state administration, including members of the National Council of the Slovak Republic, political parties, diplomatic corps and security structures took part in the meeting.

 

In his speech, Minister Lajčák accentuated the significance of the partnership of the countries of the North-Atlantic Alliance on both sides of the Atlantic and pointed to threats that the world is currently facing. He noted that the world has been going through a great transformation from a bi-polar to a multi-polar world. The Head of Slovak diplomacy acknowledged the open-door policy that NATO has been following. In this context he also pointed to the signing of the agreement between Athens and Skopje, which is a fundamental step for North Macedonia to establish itself in this elite political security club. He also explained why neutrality is not a solution for Slovakia. The minister pointed to the threat of the spread of disinformation and the need to better guard cyber space. To conclude, he presented the tasks and priorities that the Slovak Republic fulfils as part of the Chairmanship in the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
