Today (February 6, 2020), Miroslav Lajčák, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, arrived in Ankara, as a part of a bilateral visit to the Republic of Turkey. The visit is taking place at the invitation of his counterpart, Mr. Mevlüt Čavušoglu.

To begin his visit, Miroslav Lajčák met with the Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Committee of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey (that is, the Turkish parliament), Volkan Bozkir. The partners discussed a number of current foreign policy issues, such as the revitalisation of the UN’s system of operations and the need for its reform, and the Agenda 2030 for sustainable development. The chairman of the foreign committee of the Turkish parliament took an interest in the experience of Minister Lajčák during his term of office as the President of the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly (in years 2017-2018). The chairman asked Minister Lajčák about which moments he considers key in this context.

As part of his working agenda, Minister Lajčák laid a wreath in the Mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder and first president of the Republic of Turkey and, as part of this act of respect, signed the memorial guest book.
