Minister Lajčák Receives Elan S. Carr, Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism

In his capacity of the Chairperson-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Miroslav Lajčák, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs received today (6 February 2019) received Elan S. Carr, Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism.  Mr. Carr was visiting Slovakia immediately after his appointment in order to take part in the Conference for Combatting Antisemitism in the OSCE Region, which took place in Bratislava on 5 and 6 February 2019.

 

The minister congratulated the special envoy on his appointment and on this occasion highlighted the engagement of the US in relation to this very important issue. He also thanked him for his participation at this first high-level conference of the Slovak OSCE chairmanship. The head of Slovak diplomacy assured his diplomatic partner that this is just the beginning of Slovakia’s chairmanship effort to pursue a comprehensive approach to the issues of tolerance, non-discrimination and combatting hate speech. “The event in Bratislava confirmed that manifestations of antisemitism and/or other kinds of hatred are still present. It is therefore necessary that the representatives of governmental institutions in collaboration with the civil society fight against this dangerous phenomenon,” said Minister Lajčák.
