The timeliness, relevance and contribution of the Conference for Combatting Antisemitism in the OSCE region which took place in Bratislava this week, as the first high-level conference under Slovakia’s Chairmanship in the OSCE, were among the key themes of the meeting between Miroslav Lajčák, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic and Ronald Steven Lauder, President of the World Jewish Congress on 8 February 2019. Igor Rintel, Chairman of the Central Association of Jewish Religious Communities was also present during the meeting.  The head of Slovak diplomacy assured his partner that this is just the beginning of Slovakia’s chairmanship effort to pursue a comprehensive approach to the issues of tolerance, non-discrimination and combatting hate speech. “The event in Bratislava confirmed that manifestations of antisemitism and other kinds of hatred are still present both in European society and in other OSCE participating states.  It is therefore necessary that the representatives of governmental institutions in collaboration with the civil society fight against this dangerous phenomenon,” said Minister Lajčák.

The Minister acknowledged the personal engagement of Ronald Lauder and his contribution to the restoration of the vitality of Jewish communities in Slovakia, which contribute to the cultural richness, variety and development of our country.
