Minister Lajčák Expresses Appreciation for Work Done by the Government Council of the Slovak Republic for Export and Investments Promotion

Measures for the support of Slovakia’s external economic relations, the coordination of the promotion of Slovakia’s trade and economic interests abroad, as well as the preparation of the Slovak participation in the EXPO Dubai – these were among the topics of the first session of the Government Council of the Slovak Republic for Export and Investments Promotion held this year on Wednesday (5 February) at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic.
 

The Government Council session was led by its co-chairs, Miroslav Lajčák, Slovak Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, and Peter Žiga, Minister of Economy of the Slovak Republic. “This was the last pre-election session of the Government Council; I appreciate that the participants of the negotiations held today highlighted the importance of this Council, which has convened 24 times since its launch in 2012, and in this time 133 documents have been approved and more than 150 conclusions adopted,” underlined Minister Lajčák during the talks, which were attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Slovak Republic, Gabriela Matečná, and Minister of Finance, Ladislav Kamenický. 

 

The members of the Government Council discussed the Report on the Outcomes and Conclusions of the Survey on the Impact of Innovation and Support Tools on Export Performance of Companies in the Slovak Republic. They further discussed the information about the increased engagement of business entities in the development cooperation in the context of the OECD Peer Review and the Mid-Term Strategy of the Official Development Aid (ODA) for 2019-2023, as well as the activities of the EXIMBANKA SR in the official development cooperation.  Another item on the agenda was the annual Report on the State and Results of Economic Diplomacy in 2019. The members also talked about meeting the measures for the support of the implementation of the strategy of external economic relations, the preparation of the Slovak participation in the EXPO Dubai and the information about the creation of an export database of Slovak food companies.

 

The main aim of the Government Council of the Slovak Republic for Export and Investments Promotion is to coordinate the promotion of the trade and economic interests of the Slovak Republic and the unified presentation of the Slovak Republic abroad through intensive dialogue and mutual cooperation between the public administration and representatives of the business sector.  “This is a unique platform attended by both representatives of the Government and the business sector. In the 8 years since the founding of this platform we have succeeded in creating a very concrete and constructive atmosphere; I think we have moved forward with many things,” he added.
