Miroslav Lajčák, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, opened the 27th annual Christmas Charity Bazaar in Stará Tržnica in Bratislava today (25 November 2018).  This traditional event was again organized by the International Women’s Club of Bratislava (IWCB), a non-profit organization that brings together women active in diplomatic, societal and business life in Slovakia. Its aim is to collect funds for charity projects in the Slovak Republic with the help of foreign embassies in Slovakia, which present their countries and sell traditional products and culinary specialties. The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic also participated with Slovak products presented at their table.

In his opening address Minister Lajčák expressed his pleasure that the Christmas Charity Bazaar, now in its 27th year, attests to the fact that this nice event has found its firm place in the pre-Christmas calendar, as well as the hearts of both the locals and visitors to our capital city of Bratislava. He thanked to the main organizers the International Women’s Club and the 30 embassies that decided to present their countries and culture by means of their cuisines, as well as other partners. He stressed that all of the collected funds would go to charity. “Since 1991 more than a million euros has been collected in this way and the organizers deserve our praise and respect,” stated Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Minister Lajčák in the end.

Thirty countries, four international schools and five non-profit organizations had their national stands at the event.  The funds collected at this biggest charity event of diplomatic community, which helps various nations and cultures meet and get acquainted, will be used by the ICWB for concrete charity projects of Slovak associations.
