In response to the information made public about the abduction by Vietnamese authorities of a citizen of Vietnam from Germany, allegedly through the Slovak Republic, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic summoned today (3 May) H.E. Minh Trong Duong, Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Slovakia, to explain these allegations. Marián Jakubócy, MFA´s Head of the Political Directorate asked for an explanation about the worrisome allegations concerning the forcible repatriation of one Trinh Xuan Thanh, a citizen of Vietnam. “If these allegations are confirmed, we will see this as a serious incident, which will negatively impact our bilateral relations. We strongly protest to linking Slovakia with such wrongdoing, in itself an inadmissible and shameful violation of international law,” stated Jakubócy.

The Head of the Political Directorate warned that should the explanation prove unsatisfactory, the Slovak Republic reserves the right to consider adopting further measures in line with the diplomatic practice.
