Lukáš Parízek, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, received today (January 9, 2020) the new Greek Ambassador to the Slovak Republic, Georgios Dimitriadis.

Issues related to cooperation dominated the meeting as economic diplomacy is one of the priorities of the Greek government. “We see opportunities for closer cooperation of our countries also with regards to the EU enlargement, the Cohesion Policy, the Multiannual Financial Framework and the Western Balkans,” stated Lukáš Parízek. Both partners expressed their interest in the continuation of the business forum which took place in March 2018 in Bratislava, with the aim of intensifying the exchange in the area of trade and investments.

The process of Greek privatization, which focuses mainly on the energy sector, transport infrastructure and real estate, can be a call for the engagement of the Slovak companies. There are prospects for cooperation in the area of information technologies, alternative and renewable sources of energy, water management, and innovative technologies in the area of agricultural products processing.

Greece represents the third most popular holiday destination for Slovaks; in 2018, almost 80,000 tourists travelled to Greece. Hundreds of Greek students study at the Slovak medical and pharmaceutical schools, which creates a potential for a long-term cooperation in the area of healthcare and social services.
