Statement of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic on agreement on the nuclear program of Iran

9.5.2018 | Vyhlásenia a stanoviská ministerstva

The Slovak Republic is concerned with the decision made by the United States of America to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal (the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action – JCPOA), an agreement on the nuclear program of Iran, and to re-impose the U.S. nuclear-related sanctions. The Slovak Republic has long promoted the JCPOA endorsed by UN Security Council Resolution 2231 (2015) while Iran’s meeting of its ensuing nuclear-related commitments has repeatedly been confirmed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). We remain convinced that the JCPOA attests to the effectiveness of international diplomacy in resolving security challenges in the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and that the deal continues to meet its intended purpose to guarantee the exclusively-peaceful character of Iran´s nuclear program. The Slovak Republic will closely coordinate further action together with its EU partners to find a satisfactory solution and to preserve the JCPOA.
