State Secretary of the Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Ministry Lukáš Parízek today (21 August 2019) received Ola Henrikson, the Regional Director of the IOM's Regional Office for the EU, European Economic Area (EEA) and North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The core topics of the talks were the global migration trends and especially the opportunities for solving the issues brought about by migration.

Parízek stated his appreciation for the existing level of cooperation between the Slovak Republic and IOM in responding to current challenges. This involves not only the control of unregulated migration, but also setting rules for the controlled migration of the foreign labor force, which the Slovak Republic and other EU countries need. Henrikson expressed an interest in further reinforcing the dialogue with the Slovak Republic through the IOM’s Office in Bratislava.

In the discussion, they agreed that migration is a complex phenomenon and a global challenge, which can be most effectively responded to by the joint efforts of all the relevant stakeholders. The IOM plays an important role in this process.
