Open door day

Open door day

23.9.2019 |

During the 21st and 22nd September 2019, we had an open day at the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in London. The event was a part of the Open House London project, during which the most renowned London buildings open their gates to the public.

The Embassy was visited by a few hundred people: locals, and foreign tourists. During the weekend our guests had the opportunity to acquaint themselves with the building itself, a part of the acclaimed brutalist architectural tradition from the end of the 1960s, and it deserves to be among the important objects on the map of London’s most famous buildings.

We also prepared varied cultural entertainment for our guests. To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, the Slovak Design Centre created a cross-section of all of the most successful contemporary Slovak designers under the name "Velvet Generation". Dalibor Kocian, a talented musician focused on electronic and experimental music, and Michal Augustini, a composer and photographer living in London, introduced themselves to the public.

The floor was also given to the Slovak Children’s Folk Group in London performed Slovak folk songs and dances. During both days we screened Slovak movies, "Svetlé miesto" and "Dôverný nepriateľ".
