Miroslav Lajčák, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, received today (17 October 2018) Andy Garth, Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, with whom he delved into several current issues. Regarding the attack in Salisbury and the incident in Amesbury, Lajčák assured Ambassador Garth that the Slovak Republic definitely stands side by side with its NATO and EU partners, attested to at the Monday voting in the Foreign Affairs Council during which the EU foreign affairs ministers adopted a new sanction regime regarding proliferation of chemical weapons. The talks also involved Brexit, the issue to dominate the European Council in Brussels this week.  Minister Lajčák assured Ambassador Garth that the Slovak Republic is interested in a clear and correct agreement with the United Kingdom and expressed the conviction that despite the demanding negotiations an agreement satisfying both Brussels and London will finally be reached, although in the end Brexit will negatively impact both sides. “We must make all efforts possible so that the impacts are as small as possible,” stated Lajčák.
