London, 5. November 2019. The Slovak minister of foreign and European affairs, Miroslav Lajčák, has awarded  a renowned translator Julia Sherwood for her immense contributions to the translation of Slovak literature. The Award for extraordinary merits in the development of friendly relations with the Slovak Republic has been given to her during an event commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution. The Seminar „Slovak Literature since 1989“ took place at UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies. As Ambassador Ľubomír Rehák pointed out in his speech, we must admit that it is only through high-quality translations into major languages that we can hope to make the outside world aware of Slovak literary achievements.
