By Order of His Excellency The President of the Slovak Republic Andrej Kiska at the Investiture Ceremony The Ambassador of the Slovak Republic Ľubomír Rehák decorated with the Medal of The President of the Slovak Republic His Honour Sir Gavyn Arthur and Sir Anthony Bailey KGCN, OBE on 19 April 2016.
In presenting the award, Ambassador Rehak said “By decorating two distinguished gentlemen today, I would like to thank symbolically all those friends of Slovakia in the United Kingdom, who do spare their time, forces and resources spreading the good name of my country and fostering overall cooperation between our two nations". Sir Gavyn Arthur and Sir Anthony Bailey KGCN, OBE have both contributed to deeper and more fruitful bilateral relations of two countries. This high award was granted as a recognition of longstanding contribution to furhering the British-Slovak relations. Sir Gavyn Arthur reminded us that Slovakia is a brave and hard-working country. Sir Anthony Bailey KGCN, OBE said that he believes the Slovak presidency in the Council will be an important occasion to contribute to the formation of key EU policies and reforms, including all member states and hopefully the United Kingdom as well.
This special evening followed by a recital of a soprano soloist Božena Ferancová and a pianist Jozef Janík, both from Slovakia. Božena Ferancová is also a guest soloist at Slovak Nationa Theatre in Bratislava, at Janáčková Opera in Brno and National Opera in Prague. Jozef Janík is a successful soloist, accompanist, organist and choir director who has been living in London since 2000.
Ambassador Ľubomír Rehák was also pleased to introduce three talented Slovak female artists, Silvia Krupinska, Mira Varg and Mandy Hreus and their exhibition One Country Three Worlds. The exhibition marks their time as they are graduating from MA Art and Science at Central Saint Martins. It is a celebration of three art worlds and perceptions. The exhibition is on at the embassy until 27 May 2016.
The evening was attended by members of several European Royal Houses, members of both Houses of Parliament, the Lord Mayor of the City of Westminster, the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, the Ambassadors of Austria, Belarus, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Denmark, Georgia, Kosovo, Hungary, Iceland, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, Slovenia, Ukraine, the High Commissioners of Cyprus, Malta, St Christopher and Nevis, the Representative of the European Commission to the UK, His Eminence Archbishop Athanasius Toma Dawod, His Grace Bishop Angaelos, diplomats, many British, Irish and other friends of Slovakia, colleagues of the recipients and HSH Princess Marie-Therese von Hohenberg, Lady Bailey.
