“The dynamics of foreign policy events pushes us to continue maintaining a high degree of professionalism in our foreign service,” stated Miroslav Lajčák, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, in his concluding remarks delivered at the meeting of the heads of diplomatic missions. As he clarified, demands on multilateral political, consular and economic dimensions of foreign policy are high, and therefore it is important to continue to deliver consistently. “I wish to thank you for always having the interests of the Slovak Republic and its citizens in mind while carrying out your tasks,” emphasized the head of the Slovak diplomatic service, addressing the Slovak ambassadors as he was formally closing the four-day meeting.

Before the minister’s closing address, ambassadors heard State Secretary Lukáš Parízek, who presented Slovakia’s activities in the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe. In the panel on Slovakia’s OSCE chairmanship activities, he and Martin Klus, Deputy Chairman of the Committee of the National Council of the Slovak Republic and member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Council, evaluated the OSCE chairmanship activities of the Slovak Republic, which placed emphasis on conflict prevention and tension mitigation in selected regions in the competency of this organisation.

In the morning hours, ambassadors had the opportunity to listen to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Martin Tlapa, and the state secretary of the Slovak foreign affairs ministry Lukáš Parízek, in a panel which focused on the key issues of economic diplomacy. The partners agreed on the need to adapt economic diplomacy to current global trends and challenges, and confirmed that the execution of  economic diplomacy is carried out at the practical level.

Before the Czech guest, the French State Secretary for European Affairs, Amélie de Montchalin, addressed the Slovak ambassadors.  She emphasized the deep historic links between the two countries. She also mentioned the strong Slovak-French partnership, which has been benefiting from a pro-European position. “Pro-Europeanism is more important than the size of a country,” she underscored. According to her, the European Union is a real global player, which should watch over adherence to the rules of international order. “When protecting the international order, there can’t be any compromises,” she concluded.
