State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Igor Slobodník welcomed Huo Yuzhen, Special Representative for China-CEE Cooperation Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, to Bratislava on Wednesday (8 March 2016). The Chinese and Slovak counterparts discussed issues of common interest geared towards deepening economic cooperation.
Ambassador Huo Yuzhen stated that the People´s Republic of China considers Slovakia to be an important partner both regionally and in Europe and pointed to the significance of the upcoming Presidency of the Slovak Republic of the Council of the EU.

They confirmed their mutual interest in active cooperation within the China + CEE region format, including its focus on innovation and international transfers of technologies. “We are ready to accelerate the establishment of a virtual China-16CEE technology transfer center," stated State Secretary Slobodník. According to the Chinese representative, this area – in which Slovakia specializes – could also become one of the concrete outcomes of the 5th summit of prime ministers of 16 CEE states and China that is being prepared.

In the next part of the talks, State Secretary Slobodník stated that the bilateral economic potential between Slovakia and China is great and pointed to several concrete investment opportunities in Slovakia. “During the next period, we must make efforts towards diversifying our export structure and we should jointly work on major Chinese investment projects that could become the example for more intensive economic cooperation,” added Slobodník.
