Superlegalisation:

Official documents which are issued in one State and which are intended to be used in another State must be duly certified if they are to be recognized. Since the People´s Republic of China is not a signatory party to the Convention on the Abolition of the Requirement of Higher Verification of Foreign Public Documents (The Hague, 1961), a so-called superlegalisation of Chinese documents through the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Beijing is required. A prerequisite for the superlegalisation of a Chinese document is to ensure that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People´s Republic of China authenticates it. The following list of steps shall be observed:

1. Originals or notarized copies of Chinese documents (e. g marriage certificates, education documents, criminal records or notary´s authenticated signature on a power of attorney letter, contract or the like) must first be authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People´s Republic of China. Further information.

2. Authenticated documents (bearing a legalization stamp and a signature of an employee of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People´s Republic of China) along with copies and a valid passport/ID (originals and copies) must be delivered personally to the Consular Department of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Beijing during the designated consular hours for superlegalization. A super-legalized document is then applicable for legal purposes in the Slovak Republic.

3. In case the documents for superlegalisation are forwarded by a proxy, then the respective set of documents shall encompass the following items: a printed power of attorney letter in both English and Chinese (optional) signed by both the applicant and the proxy; copies of all documents (including the passport/ID).

4. All foreign-language documents, which are intended to be used in the Slovak Republic, must be accompanied by a certified translation into the Slovak language. Certified translators, the list of which is kept within the Ministry of Justice of the Slovak Republic, can do the necessary translation. Documents shall be only translated into Slovak after they have been superlegalised.

Legalisation:

By certifying the authenticity of the signature of an applicant, the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Beijing confirms that the applicant has signed the document in front of the authorized employee or that he / she acknowledged his / her own signature done in the past. The legalisation act itself does not confirm the veracity of the content of the document. Applications for legalisations are to be submitted along with a valid passport at the Consular Department of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Beijing during the designated consular hours.

Fees:

The super-legalization fee (EUR 20) in CNY and the signature verification fee (legalisation) for each signature (EUR 10) in CNY are variable and depend on the current EUR-CNY exchange rate. Super-legalization fees and signature verification (legalisation) fees must be paid in cash on site. The Consular Department of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Beijing reserves five working days for processing both superlegalisation and signature verification (legalisation) applications.

Notice: Documents for legalisation and superlegalisation cannot be delivered by a postal service.
