On 5 July 2019, František Ružička, State Secretary of the Slovak Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, made a working visit to Rome and the Vatican.

Bilateral issues and European affairs were the subject of František Ružička’s negotiations with Luciano Caracciolo, State Secretary under the cabinet of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Italy. The partners discussed current EU issues, with a special emphasis on immediate challenges within the context of the recent nominations for the highest positions in European institutions. The existing integration is a guarantee of strong cooperation. “Our closely interconnected economies within the common European market predispose and commit our countries to strengthening our mutual dialogue and to further collaboration. Only common solutions based on compromise can help us address the challenges the Union is facing,” emphasized State Secretary Ružička.

Relations between Slovakia and the Republic of Italy are traditionally very strong, and both countries have a keen interest in investing into further advancement of these relations. The commitment of the Slovak Republic in this regard is confirmed by the calendar of the upcoming visits of our highest constitutional representatives in Rome. The planned visits were the subject of talks between the Slovak State Secretary and the Head of Diplomatic Protocol of the Republic of Italy, Inigo Lambertini.

At the Vatican, František Ružička met with the former Apostolic Nuncio in Slovakia, Mons. Mario Giordana. On the Slovak national holiday, the Day of Ss. Cyril and Methodius, the partners reminded each other of the meaning of faith in the lives of many people, and the related importance of an honest and constructive dialogue between the Holy See and the Slovak Republic.
