Slovak Ambassadors Meet with Zuzana Čaputová, President of the Slovak Republic

3.7.2019 | Aktivity ministra | Aktivity veľvyslancov | Aktivity štátnych tajomníkov

Being received by the President of the Slovak Republic Zuzana Čaputova was the most important item of the agenda of the meeting of the heads of diplomatic missions, which continued today (July 3, 2019) in Bratislava. “I took office with the idea that I wish to be an active president in the area of foreign policy among others. I will clearly and straightforwardly communicate our values and our interests and defend them, as I wish for Slovakia to be perceived as a confident country with its values firmly anchored. I will not be silent should our values be besmirched, or should there be confusing signals coming out of Slovakia or acts against our interests as a member of the EU and NATO. This is mainly what we discussed with the minister of foreign affairs Miroslav Lajčák and our ambassadors. I very much appreciate the work they do for Slovakia. I promise I will do everything I can so that they can be proud of Slovakia and have good conditions for their demanding work. I want our diplomatic service to continue to be respected and of quality,” proclaimed the Slovak president Zuzana Čaputová.

Before meeting with the Slovak president, the state secretaries of the foreign affairs ministry František Ružička and Lukáš Parízek also addressed the ambassadors.

State Secretary Ružička accentuated that Slovakia must unambiguously support the fundamental values of the Euro-American Western civilization to which it belongs, and be able to protect its interests and also the interests of the broader EU and NATO community. “Slovakia cannot be an isolated island and should remain in the very core of European integration,” stated State Secretary Ružička.

State Secretary Parízek took special interest in economic diplomacy and its tangible results. “We will continue to organise business missions that are beneficial for the foreign service but mainly for the Slovak Republic,” he said.

The last item of the meeting was the address of the Minister of Finance Ladislav Kamenický, who presented Slovakia’s current economic results. In the discussion, moderated by the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Miroslav Lajčák, the heads of diplomatic missions discussed the possibilities of cooperation between the diplomatic service and the finance ministry. “I appreciate that Minister Kamenický accepted the invitation and briefed our ambassadors on the current developments regarding our economy,” concluded M. Lajčák.

The meeting of ambassadors will continue Thursday, July 4, with addresses by the State Secretary of the French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Amélie de Montchalin and the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Martin Tlapa.

The meeting of the heads of diplomatic missions, which the ministry organizes every year as a platform for discussion on principal issues of Slovak foreign policy, will be formally concluded by Minister Lajčák.
