Today (14 February 2019) František Ružička, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, received Zvi A. Vapni, Ambassador of Israel to Slovakia. The talks mainly focused on the preparations for the summit of the prime ministers of the Visegrad Group and Israel which will take place next week (19 February 2019) in Jerusalem under the aegis of the Slovak Republic’s current presidency in the Visegrad 4. “We expect that the summit V4 plus Israel will offer an impulse for the further enhancement of cooperation between the region of Central Europe and Israel. Today we already have specific common experience with the implementation of projects in the area of innovation, international organisations and combatting terrorism. But we also see room for the enhancement of cooperation in areas such as water management or cyber security, where Israel is an important partner for experience sharing,” stated the state secretary. On the occasion of the summit, a bilateral meeting of the prime ministers of the Slovak Republic and Israel will also take place.

The State Secretary also informed his partner about the activities of Slovakia’s chairmanship in the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and on the outcomes of the international OSCE Conference on Combatting Antisemitism, which was held this month in Bratislava. The partners also discussed issues of common interest regarding the current regional developments in the Near East and the relations between the EU and Israel, which is one of the closest EU partners with the greatest degree of access to EU programmes.
