Today (June 5, 2020) the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Ingrid Brocková, received the President of the World Association of Slovaks Living Abroad, Vladimír Skalský. Together, they discussed issues concerning the further enhancement and development of relations between the Slovak Republic and the Slovaks living abroad. In this respect, Ingrid Brocková said: “The significance we attach to Slovaks living abroad and to cooperation with Slovak communities and minorities is clearly confirmed by the newly adopted Program Statement of the Government of the Slovak Republic. Our intention is to continue the broad support in all areas of social life, culture, education and media presentation, so that they feel our presence.”

In relation to the ongoing and registered changes in the Slovak communities, also associated with the emergence of new diasporas, the State Secretary concluded: “The Slovak Republic is interested in modernizing the concept of the State Policy on Care for Slovaks Living Abroad. We plan to actively involve foreign Slovaks themselves in the preparation of the new policy. We strive to intensify our cooperation and use all opportunities to involve Slovaks living abroad in promoting the goals of the foreign policy of the Slovak Republic.”

At the meeting, Vladimír Skalský informed the State Secretary about the activities and future plans of the World Association of Slovaks Living Abroad. As a representative of Slovaks living in the Czech Republic, he also discussed the situation of the Slovak minority living in this neighboring country.
