Europe-Ukraine Economic Forum is not only about Ukraine

The 9th Europe-Ukraine Economic Forum taking place in the Polish city of Łodz, 24-26 January 2016, with participation of high officials from the EU and the Eastern Partnership countries, presents a platform for broader discussions of political, economic, cultural and social relations in Central and Eastern Europe.

Igor Slobodník, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, addressed the forum in the panel dedicated to initiatives for closer cooperation of countries situated between the Baltic, Black and Adriatic Seas and reiterated the importance attributed by Slovakia to dialogue between all partners willing to develop joint projects and sharing a European future. He reminded that the foremost interest should be using the existing functional relations and institutions that already are regularly complemented by established formats.

For Slovakia, the Visegrad Group remains the primary space for regional cooperation whose success is founded on specific projects underpinned by a lasting common political interest and a platform that has developed functioning ties to regional groups to the north just like to the east and south of it. Any new regional or supra-regional initiatives should first be subjected to a critical test for added value, actual instrumentality and potential for their lasting financial sustainability.
