National visa is a permission granted by Slovak Republic, which allows its holder to stay at the territory of the Slovak Republic.
How can apply for national visa?
Citizen of third country when
a) it is necessary in relation with granting a residence permit in Slovak Republic,
b) person older than 15 years accepted to language education on language school in program which has at least 25 study hours per week,
c) it is necessary in order to fulfil the obligations of the Slovak Republic following from international treaties,
d) it is in interest of the Slovak Republic,
e) applicant is a family member of an alien who was granted asylum or subsidiary protection.
For how long is national visa granted?
National visa is granted for a stay longer than 3 months, maximum 1 year. National visa can be granted
a) for 90 days, if it is necessary in relation with granting a residence permit in Slovak Republic,
b) for a time of language education on language school, maximum till 31st of July of the school year in question,
c) for necessary time, in case of applicant is a family member of an alien who was granted asylum or subsidiary protection.
Person applying for national visa is obliged to provide fingerprints of 10 fingers. Persons excluded from this duty are children under 12 years old and persons from whom fingerprinting is physically impossible.

2. Valid passport recognized by the Slovak Republic
3. Recent photo in color 3 x 3,5 cm (1,2 x 1,4 inch)
4. Documents supporting purpose of travel
5. Travel insurance
6. Persons applying for national visa in relation with granting a residence permit in Slovak Republic must submit all documents necessary to submit an application to grant residence permit (see Residence permit in Slovak Republic)
7. Person applying for national visa in relation with accepting the language education on language school must submit document proving sufficient financial means and document proving accommodation too, if mentioned information are not stated in document supporting purpose of travel
Note: The Embassy is allowed to ask for additional documents. On request of the Embassy, applicant is obliged to participate on personal interview at the Embassy.
Granting of national visa
The Embassy shall decide on application for national visa in 30 days since the day of submitting of the application.
The Embassy is allowed to determine a border crossing point to enter Slovak Republic for applicant.
Refusal of national visa and revocation of national visa
The Embassy will not grant national visa in case that applicant did not submit all required documents, did not meet all criteria or submitted false or misleading information or false or changed passport or passport of other person
The Embassy will revoke granted national visa
a) The Embassy discovered facts which would result in refusal of national visa,
b) applicant was administratively expelled or was imposed the sentence of expulsion,
c) applicant does not fulfil the purpose for which national visa was granted,
d) applicant was sentenced for intentional crime,
e) applicant became persona non grata,
f) applicant seriously or repeatedly breached Act. No. 404/2011 Col. as amended,
g) applicant asked for revocation of national visa.
Appeal against the decision of refusal of national visa is allowed just in case of family member of an alien who was granted asylum or subsidiary protection.
Administrative fee for national visa application is collected under the administrative tariff of administrative fees (see Administrative fees) in USD according actual exchange rate USD –EUR.
