The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic forms a part of the executive power in the Slovak Republic. 
It is responsible for the development of relations with other states and co-operation with multi-national and international organisations, in particular in the area of foreign and security policy, bilateral relations, economic co-operation, culture, science, technology, and education.

As part of the working visit by the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic to India, the Representation Office of the Slovak Republic in New Delhi organized the Slovak- Indian forum entitled the Slovak Innovation and Technology Day on Thursday, 22 February 2024. The event was attended by 22 businessmen and representatives from Slovak institutions and more than a hundred Indian partners.

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Juraj Blanár, together with State Secretary Rastislav Chovanec and Slovak Ambassador to India Róbert Maxián, was received by Giridhar Aramane, State Secretary of the Defense Ministry of India in New Delhi today (22 February 2024). Then the representatives of the Slovak Republic also held talks with Minister of External Affairs of India Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.

The Slovak delegation opened the first day of their working visit to India (21 February 2024) with negotiations at a specialized economic forum CII India – Europe Business and Sustainability Conclave, which is organized before the main conference Raisina Dialogue by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). At the event, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Juraj Blanár together with State Secretary Rastislav Chovanec actively addressed the participants and were involved in discussions.

The Visegrad Group marks its 33rd anniversary on 15 February 2024. On this occasion, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Juraj Blanár, stressed the need for more agile cooperation in one of the important regional groups on the European continent.

On 12 February 2024, Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár welcomed three junior foreign diplomats representing France, Lithuania and the European Commission. Together with three colleagues from Slovakia, they are taking part in the 24th European Diplomatic Programme of the European External Action Service.

On 9 February 1993, the independent Slovak Republic became a member of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). On the occasion of the 31st anniversary of Slovakia's accession to UNESCO, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Juraj Blanár, highlighted Slovakia's activities and prestigious achievements in one of the most renowned specialised agencies in the United Nations system.

Today (6 February 2024) the Government of the Slovak Republic discussed the material of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic on the results of the 42nd session of the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which took place at the end of last year in Paris.

On 5 February 2024 in Rome, Juraj Blanár, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, held talks with the ministers of the countries of the informal grouping "Friends of the Western Balkans" together with their Western Balkan partners.

On 26 January 2024, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Juraj Blanár met with the Romanian Foreign Minister Luminita Odobescu in Bucharest. The talks focused on mutual relations, the European agenda and regional cooperation and security issues, including the negative impact of the war in Ukraine. The ministers also signed a protocol on education for the period between 2024 and 2028. The signing of a memorandum of understanding in the field of nuclear energy is also underway.

Bratislava, 25 January 2024 - Katarína Tomková will be the new Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to the Federative Republic of Brazil. During her farewell meeting at the Ministry, the Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár wished her not only a safe trip, but, above all, the fulfilment of the determination and focus she has already put forth as part of her preparation for this South American mission.

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of official development assistance, the SlovakAid Development Summit will take place on 8-10 November 2023 under the auspices of the President of the Slovak Republic.
