Schengen visa entitles a foreigner to visit territory of Schengen member states for a period of visa validity, maximum for the period of 90 days within 6 months (180 days). The beginning of half-a-year period is marked by the first day of entry to the Schengen area. Schengen visa application is to be submitted at the Consular Section of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Beijing during regular consular hours in person or based on previous consultations. An application is to be submitted maximum 6 months and minimum 15 days before the planned trip. Competent country to consider visa application and to decide upon visa is that Schengen member state, which is a sole visitor`s destination. In case of visiting more than one country of the Schengen area, the length of stay in each state is to be considered – the applicant needs to submit the application at the Embassy of that state, which he/she intends to spend the most time in. When submitting an application, a visa fee of 80,-EUR for adults and 40,-EUR for children from 6 to 12 years old is to be paid (payable in RMB).

Applications can be submitted within the opening hours of the visa application centres or at the Consular Section of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Beijing that is open on Tuesday and Thursday, 9.00-11.00. Applications shall be decided upon within 15 calendar days of the date of the lodging of an application. That period may be extended up to a maximum of 45 calendar days in individual cases, notably when further scrutiny of the application is needed. Applications shall be decided upon without delay in justified individual cases of urgency. Negative decisions on applications must be notified to the applicant, that such decisions must state the reasons on which they are based and that applicants whose applications are refused have a right to appeal, with information regarding the procedure to be followed in the event of an appeal, including the competent authority, as well as the time limit for lodging an appeal. Mere possession of a visa does not confer an automatic right of entry and that the holders of visa are requested to present proof that they fulfil the entry conditions at the external border, as provided for in the Schengen Borders Code. The Consular Section of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Beijing processes and decides visa in 15 calendar days. As of 12th of October 2015 it is mandatory for each applicant to provide the biometric data (collection of fingerprints) when applying for Schengen visa. Biometric data are, in principle, to be collected every 59 months, starting from the date of the first collection. The stamp indicating that an application is admissible as provided for in the Schengen Visa Code has no legal implications. On the grounds of a threat to public policy, internal security, international relations or public health, a Member State may require the central authorities of other Member States to consult its central authorities during the examination of applications lodged by nationals of specific third countries or specific categories of such nationals. Such consultation shall not apply to applications for airport transit visas.

Visa Processing – representation by Third Countries

Beginning December 5th, 2011, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ulanbaatar accepts visa applications of citizens of Mongolia for Schengen short term visas on behalf of the Slovak Republic. An agreement between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic on the mutual representation by their diplomatic and consular missions in processing visas came into force on December 4 th, 2011. According to the Agreement the Czech Republic represents Slovakia for the purpose of examining applications and issuing Schengen (short-term) visas on behalf of the Slovak Republic in Mongolia. This representation arrangement enables applicants to submit their visa applications in Mongolia at the Czech Embassy in Ulanbaatar, instead of applying at the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Beijing, China. Applications for long term visas are not subject to the representation arrangement and the applicants should continue to submit their visa applications at the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Beijing.
