    What is Schengen visa?

    A Schengen visa is a short-stay visa that allows a person to travel to any member states of the Schengen Area, up to 90 days per stay for example for the purpose of tourism, business, visiting relatives and friends, etc. However, if you are planning to study, work, or live in one of the Schengen countries for more than 90 days, then you must apply for a national visa or residence.

    How much time does it take for the visa application to be evaluated?

    We work hard to ensure that applications are evaluated in a speedy manner. For most applicants from most countries, the expected time for a decision and collecting passport is 5 -7 working days. However, we caution that the deadline for evaluation is 15 calendar days, which might be extended up to 45 calendar days if necessary.

    Submission of fingerprints along the Schengen visa application

    Visa applicants are required to submit ten fingerprints when applying. Fingerprints are taken once every 59 months, except in the following cases.

    Although the visa applicant has submitted fingerprints in the past, the applicant's fingerprints must be taken repeatedly in the case of:

    • doubts about the identity of the applicant;
    • if it is not possible to obtain fingerprints from a previous visa application in the VIS;
    • if the low quality of fingerprints previously stored in the VIS does not allow their use in a new application.

    The following categories of persons are exempted from the obligation to take fingerprints:

    • children under the age of 12;
    • persons for whom it is physically impossible to take fingerprints;
    • Heads of State or Government and members of national governments, accompanied by their spouses, and members of their official delegation, when invited for official purposes by the Government of a Member State or by international organizations.
