Slovak citizen is obliged to register his/her marriage or birth of a child at the Slovak Birth and Marriage Registry.

In the occassion of birth of a child to a Slovak citizen abroad, it is necessary to apply for a Slovak birth certificate (Rodný list).  

Documents required for applying for Slovak birth certificate:

• Slovak passport of a parent which has been valid also in the day 
• Foreign passport of the child
• Foreign Birth Certificate of the child with appostile – trranslation to Slovak can be arranged 
• with the Embassy
• Slovak Marriage certificate of parents – if applicable

In the occassion of marriage to a Slovak citizen abroad, it is necessary to apply for a Slovak marriage certificate (Sobášny list).  

Documents required for applying for Slovak marriage certificate:

• Slovak passport of the Slovak citizen 
• Foreign or Slovak passport of the spouse
• Foreign marriage certificate with appostile – trranslation to Slovak can be arranged with the Embassy
