Visa requirements
Australian and New Zealand citizens may travel to Slovakia based on a valid passport and stay there without a visa for maximum of 90 days in any 180 days period. Citizens from the others countries legally living within of territorial competences of the Slovak Embassy in Canberra may do require a valid Slovak visa when traveling to Slovakia for any purpose.
Citizens from all the countries of territorial competences of the Slovak Embassy in Canberra, wanting to stay in Slovakia for period longer than 90 days in the course of any 180 day period and do not comply with terms for the granting of a permanent residence permit or WHS visa (citizens of Australia and New Zealand only) must obtain a temporary residence permit.
As of 21. December 2007 Slovakia became a full member of the Schengen Area, thus valid Schengen visa is fully recognised by Slovak Authorities to enter and stay in Slovakia from this date. Please contact the Embassy in Canberra for information about visa requirements.
Visa applicants have to complete an application for a visa before coming to the Embassy of Slovakia in Canberra and book a date of application for a visa at the Embassy.

Harmonizing rules and procedures – Schengen visa C
The Schengen Borders Code provides EU States with a single set of common rules that govern external border checks on persons, entry requirements and duration of stays in the Schengen Area. By harmonizing these rules, the EU seeks to render them more efficient, whilst increasing their transparency. Similarly, through the Schengen Visa Code EU States have harmonized conditions and procedures for issuing short-stay visas (i.e. visas for stays that do not exceed three months).
A clearer definition of short stay of non-EU citizens in the Schengen area ("90 days in any 180 days period") is applicable from 18 October 2013. Since then a new method of calculation of short stays applies.

Visas are required for all travel to Australia. Visas for visits or business an can be obtained electronically eVisitor via the web site of the Embassy of Australia in Vienna www.immi.gov.au/evisa/visitors.htm.
Australian nationals do not need visas to enter Slovakia for a short-term visit not exceeding 90 days for the purpose of tourism, transit, visit, business trip, or similar purposes.
Information on visas
Foreign person can stay on the territory of the Slovak Republic for a short-term visit not exceeding 90 days during a six month period permitted by a Schengen visa. If you are not a national of visa free country you must obtain a Schengen visa to enter the Slovak Republic prior to entering the country. Using an official printed form, the visa application can be lodged in person at the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Canberra, 47 Culgoa Circuit, O´Malley Canberra, ACT.
The processing time is maximum 30 days, provided all requirements have been met. Visa cannot be extended. Slovak Republic is a member of the European Union and Schengen system. Foreigners who intend to work, study, teach, or do business in Slovakia for a long-term period may apply for a temporary residency permit at the Slovak Embassy or Consulate General abroad.

Please note that only applications with all of the supporting documents as follows will be accepted.
The Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Canberra requires to submit the following documents (except travel insurance) also by spouses of EEA citizens.
completed legibly and signed by the applicant (or a legal guardian for children).
2. Passport (with current Australian visa) valid for at least 3 months beyond the validity of the requested visa, (with a blank visa page to affix the visa sticker) plus a copy of the passport (only the data page with your photograph and signature).
3. One recent photograph (3,5 x 4,5 cm) of the applicant.
4. Travel insurance - letter from the insurance company stating that you will be covered for any medical expenses, hospitalization and repatriation for at least the equivalent to 30,000 Euro during your stay in Slovakia. In the letter must be stated your name, validity of insurance and amount which covers medical expenses. If your current insurance company does not provide such coverage, you have to find an international insurance.
5. A stamped, self-addressed envelope with postage stamps for registered post envelope if you want to have the visa returned by mail.

6. Documents confirming the purpose of the travel:
tourist visa - original voucher issued by travel agency verifying the payment of services in the Slovak Republic (length of stay, hotel accommodation, board and lodging, trips, etc.) with confirmation of fully paid accommodation, please note that we do not accept bookings without full payment
visitors visa - an original letter of invitation signed by your host in Slovakia, the signature must be verified by a Slovak notary or by the Embassy of the Slovak Republic,
business visa - an original letter of invitation signed by your Slovakian business partner, the signature must be verified by a Slovak notary or by the by the Embassy of the Slovak Republic,
other purpose - document proving the purpose (e.g. invitation for conference, cultural or sport event, etc.) signed by your host in Slovakia, the signature must be verified by a Slovak notary or by the Embassy of the Slovak Republic.
7. spouses of EEA nationals have to provide us with an original of spouse’s passport issued by EEA country as well as the original document proving relationship to EEA national (marriage certificate or birth certificate). Please note that we accept only documents issued by EEA country legalised by appostille If the applicant don´t submit above mentioned document he/she will not be considered as an EEA family member.
8. Evidence that you have sufficient funds to support yourself during your stay, e.g. your bank card with statement confirming recent balance on the card, recent bank statement confirming your income of last 6 or 12 month including month when your application is submitted, traveler’s cheques or cash. The minimum sum required by Slovak authorities for one day of your stay is Eur 56 (the equivalent is payable in AUD according to the current exchange rate).
9. Proof of your current occupation/ your student status in Australia (either a recent original letter from your employer, solicitor, ABR or for students a recent original letter from your school, college or university).
10. Return ticket.
