    National Visa

    A national visa is a form of residence permit issued by the Slovak Republic, which entitles the holder to stay in the territory of the Slovak Republic. At the same time, the national visa entitles the holder to stay in the territory of other Member States for a maximum period of max. 90 days within any six-month period, subject to compliance with the conditions laid down in the Schengen Visa Code. 

     

    WHO CAN APPLY FOR NATIONAL VISA?

    A third - country national may be issued a national visa if it is a resident of one of the following countries: Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, East Timor, Brunei and if:

     

    a) it is necessary in connection with the granting of residence in the Slovak Republic;

    b) is over 15 years of age and is admitted to language training at a language school of at least 25 teaching hours per week;

    c) it is necessary for the fulfillment of the obligations of the Slovak Republic arising from international agreements, or

    d) it is in the interest of the Slovak Republic;

    e) is a member of the family of an asylum seeker or an alien who has been granted subsidiary protection, provided that he or she does not endanger national security or public order.

    On behalf of a minor applicant, the application is submitted by his / her legal representative.

     

    WHERE CAN YOU APPLY FOR NATIONAL VISA?

    You can apply for national visa at the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Jakarta. No other country is entitled to issue national visa for Slovakia, hence applicants that reside in Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, East Timor and Brunei have to personally apply for national visa in the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Jakarta.

     

    DOCUMENTS TO BE SUBMITTED FOR NATIONAL VISA APPLICATION

    The applicant is obliged to undergo collection of fingerprints when submitting the application. Fingerprints are not collected from persons under 12 years of age.

     

    The applicant submits with the application for a national visa (basic documents):

    • filled application for a national visa on an official form:

    • visa processing fee in cash (EUR or Indonesian Rupiah)
    • a valid passport and a copy of passport (valid for at least 6 months longer than the expiration of the requested visa);
    • 2 (two) colour photos 3x3,5 cm – passport size, white background, doff paper (not glossy), good quality, recent, proportional face and no Photoshop editing;
    • reservation of flight ticket

     

    In addition to the basic documents, the holder of residence permit submits:

    • travel insurance valid in all Schengen countries for the first two weeks of the trip, any expenses which might arise in connection with repatriation for medical reasons, urgency medical attention, emergency hospital treatment or death during the stay. The minimum coverage must be EUR 30 000.
    • Latest proof of accommodation in Slovakia
    • Proof of purpose of intended stay: Copy of letter with information from the Slovak Foreign Police
    • about the granting of the temporary or permanent residence

     

    In addition to the basic documents, the applicant for residence permit (applying for permit in Slovakia) submits:

    • travel insurance valid in all Schengen countries for the whole of the trip, any expenses which might arise in connection with repatriation for medical reasons, urgency medical attention, emergency hospital treatment or death during the stay. The minimum coverage must be EUR 30 000
    • Proof of purpose of intended stay: the complete application including the supporting documentation for the residence permit which is to be submitted in the Slovak Republic (documents must not be older than 90 days on the date of submitting the application in Foreign Police in Slovakia);
    • a document confirming the proof of accommodation in the Slovak Republic for the period of validity of the national visa; the proof of accommodation is not required if a relevant document on accommodation in the Slovak Republic, submitted as a part of the application for the residence permit, covers the whole period of validity of the national visa;

     

    a) affidavit of the applicant´s ownership of a property or

    b) notarized lease contract (applicant has to be indicated as the tenant/one of tenants, both signatures – landlord and tenant have to be notarized) or

    c) confirmation of the accommodation facility (dormitory, hostel, lodging house) on provision of accommodation or

    d) notarized affidavit of the property owner(s) to provide the applicant accommodation.

    • documents indicating that the applicant possesses sufficient financial means during his stay in the Slovak Republic (e.g. bank account statement confirming the financial means of 56 EUR per each day of stay); the separate document on the financial means is not required if the relevant document, submitted as a part of the application for the residence permit, covers the whole period of validity of the national visa;

     

    In addition to the basic documents, a student at the language school submits:

    • travel insurance valid in all Schengen countries for the whole of the trip, any expenses which might arise in connection with repatriation for medical reasons, urgency medical attention, emergency hospital treatment or death during the stay. The minimum coverage must be 30 000 EUR
    • proof of purpose of intended stay: Acceptance letter from the language course. Proof of admission to study at a language school has to be submitted with the signature of the authorized person and the stamp of the organization.
    • proof of accommodation in the Slovak Republic during studies at a language school (eg confirmation of the accommodation facility on the provision of accommodation, affidavit of the property owner on the provision of accommodation or affidavit of the property user on the provision of accommodation, if authorized);
    • proof of financial security of the stay in the Slovak Republic (eg confirmation of the balance on the account in the amount of 56 EUR / day of stay kept in a bank in the Slovak Republic, a branch of a foreign bank or a foreign bank in the name of the applicant).

     

    In addition to the basic documents a family member of an asylum seeker and an alien who has been granted subsidiary protection submits:

    • travel insurance valid in all Schengen countries for the whole of the trip, any expenses which might arise in connection with repatriation for medical reasons, urgency medical attention, emergency hospital treatment or death during the stay. The minimum coverage must be
      EUR 30 000
    • Proof of Accommodation

     

    a) affidavit of the applicant´s ownership of a property or

    b) notarized lease contract (applicant has to be indicated as the tenant/one of tenants, both signatures – landlord and tenant have to be notarized) or

    c) confirmation of the accommodation facility (dormitory, hostel, lodging house) on provision of accommodation or

    d) notarized affidavit of the property owner(s) to provide the applicant accommodation

    • Proof of purpose of intended stay: a document which proves his/her family relationship with a person who has been granted asylum or subsidiary protection; and a document confirming the dependency, if required.

     

    The documents for the application for a national visa shall be submitted in the original.

    The Embassy may request additional documents from the third-country national in individual cases if the documents submitted are insufficient to decide on the application for a national visa. 

     

    HOW TO APPLY FOR NATIONAL VISA

    VISA PROCESSING FEE

    The application fee is paid in cash in EUR or local currency directly at the Embassy.

     

    Fees overview:

    a) application for a national visa, if necessary, in connection with the receipt of the granted residence permit in the Slovak Republic - EUR 10;

    b) an application for a national visa, if this is necessary to fulfill the obligations of the Slovak Republic arising from international agreements, if it is in the interest of the Slovak Republic or if it is necessary in connection with the grant of a residence permit in the Slovak Republic, except in the case under letter a); - EUR 60;

    If the visa application is rejected, the administrative fee will not be refunded to the applicant. 

     

    HOW MUCH TIME DOES IT TAKE FOR THE VISA APPLICATION TO BE EVALUATED?

    We work hard to ensure that applications are evaluated in a speedy manner. For most applicants the expected time for a decision and collecting passport is 5 -7 working days. However, we caution that the deadline for evaluation is 30 calendar days. Furthermore, the Embassy may issue a national visa only with the prior consent of the Ministry of the Interior.

     

    HOW LONG IS NATIONAL VISA VALID FOR?

    A national visa is issued for a stay of more than three months, for a maximum of one year. A national visa may be issued:

     

    a) for 90 days and two entries, in the case of issuing a national visa in connection with taking over the granted stay or submitting an application for residence in the Slovak Republic,

    b) for the length of language education at a language school, no later than 31 July of the relevant school year,

    c) for the necessary time, in the case of issuing a national visa to a family member of an asylum seeker or an alien who has been granted subsidiary protection,

    d) for the necessary time, if the issue of a national visa is for the fulfillment of the obligations of the Slovak Republic arising from international agreements, or in the interest of the Slovak Republic.

     

    The Embassy is entitled to designate a border crossing point for a third-country national to enter the national visa.

     

    REJECTION OF NATIONAL VISA APPLICATION

    The Embassy or the Ministry of the Interior shall not issue a national visa if:

     

    a) the third-country national does not submit all the documents accompanying the application for a national visa;

    b) the third - country national does not fulfill the conditions for issuing a national visa; or

    c) the third-country national provides false or misleading information or presents false or altered documents or another person's document.

    An appeal may not be lodged against a decision to refuse an application for a national visa. The decision is subject to judicial review.
