    The main theme of the talks was the current situation regarding the new coronavirus and the COVID-19 disease. The State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Martin Klus, acknowledged Beijing’s approach to the issue of supplies of medical material and the gift of this material from the City of Cangzhou and the Sino-Czech-Slovak Friendship Farm. The parties agreed on the need for a coordinated approach to the crisis and on the appropriateness of creating a joint expert platform for the exchange of information and best practices in the fight against the spread of the new coronavirus. “We are pleased that in this difficult times China has shown good will to help the Slovak Republic,“ Martin Klus stated.

    Bilateral relations in the context of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations as well as the challenges for the Slovak chairmanship in the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and also global issues -- these were the themes of the talks of Miroslav Lajčák, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic and Wang Yi, State Advisor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Peoples Republic of China, who arrived today (10 July) to pay a working visit to the Slovak Republic. In their discussion, the ministers followed up on the most recent visit of Miroslav Lajčák in Beijing in April of this year. "China represents one of the key actors in the area of international policy. We are interested in maintaining a dialogue with you, in line with the EU policies and based on the One China Principle. We wish for friendly relations and a dialogue at the highest level based on mutual respect,” emphasized the chief Slovak diplomat.

    “The dynamics of foreign policy events pushes us to continue maintaining a high degree of professionalism in our foreign service,” stated Miroslav Lajčák, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, in his concluding remarks delivered at the meeting of the heads of diplomatic missions. As he clarified, demands on multilateral political, consular and economic dimensions of foreign policy are high, and therefore it is important to continue to deliver consistently. “I wish to thank you for always having the interests of the Slovak Republic and its citizens in mind while carrying out your tasks,” emphasized the head of the Slovak diplomatic service, addressing the Slovak ambassadors as he was formally closing the four-day meeting.

    Being received by the President of the Slovak Republic Zuzana Čaputova was the most important item of the agenda of the meeting of the heads of diplomatic missions, which continued today (July 3, 2019) in Bratislava. “I took office with the idea that I wish to be an active president in the area of foreign policy among others. I will clearly and straightforwardly communicate our values and our interests and defend them, as I wish for Slovakia to be perceived as a confident country with its values firmly anchored. I will not be silent should our values be besmirched, or should there be confusing signals coming out of Slovakia or acts against our interests as a member of the EU and NATO. This is mainly what we discussed with the minister of foreign affairs Miroslav Lajčák and our ambassadors. I very much appreciate the work they do for Slovakia. I promise I will do everything I can so that they can be proud of Slovakia and have good conditions for their demanding work. I want our diplomatic service to continue to be respected and of quality,” proclaimed the Slovak president Zuzana Čaputová.

    Economic diplomacy, development aid and cooperation with the business sector at home and abroad were the three dominant themes of the second day of the standard meeting of the heads of diplomatic missions, which continued today (2 July 2019) at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, in Bratislava. “Economic diplomacy, development aid and generally coordinating activities with the business sector are one of the main tasks of the heads of diplomatic missions,” the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Miroslav Lajčák, said as he welcomed the Deputy Prime Minister for Investments and Informatization Richard Raši and the Minister of Economy Peter Žiga.

    Delivering introductory remarks, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Miroslav Lajčák, opened today (1 July 2019) the standard meeting of the heads of diplomatic missions of the Slovak Republic abroad. The ministry organizes this forum every year as a platform for discussion on principal issues of Slovak foreign policy and as an opportunity to analyse in detail the results achieved. “The foreign policy milieu has changed and so has the situation at home. Foreign policy today is, more than ever before, subject to internal political debates,” emphasized Miroslav Lajčák when speaking to the present heads of diplomatic missions. According to Slovakia’s chief diplomat, it is therefore necessary for our diplomatic missions to continue to execute their agendas professionally, in all required areas. “Be it in relation to the political or economic agendas, development aid, but in particular to the consular agenda, our work means service to all our citizens,” underscored Miroslav Lajčák.

    Today (24 April 2019), Miroslav Lajčák, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic arrived in the People’s Republic of China at the invitation of the State Councillor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China Wang Yi. In Beijing he is going to speak at the 2nd Belt and Road Forum. The Chief of Slovak diplomacy began his working agenda by meeting with his Chinese counterpart. Both ministers expressed their interest in the further enhancement of bilateral cooperation and more intense contacts between the Slovak Republic and the People’s Republic of China in the political, economic and commercial areas. “Slovakia supports initiatives where it is possible to use its geographic location and transit potential,” concluded Miroslav Lajčák in this regard. He added that Bratislava is ready to make the dialogue with Beijing more intense with a focus on the set goals regarding our mutual relations, including the area of education.

    In order to serve the travellers from China to Slovakia more efficiently, the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Beijing has opened four Visa Application Centres (VACs) in Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou and Shenyang (together with one VAC in Shanghai under the administration of Consulate General of the Slovak Republic in Shanghai). The services at the VACs commenced operation on 3 December 2018 with business hours from 08:00 until 15:00, Monday to Friday.
