Residence of Foreigners in Territory of Slovakia

Residence Applications

For submission of an application and documents for temporary and permanent residence in the Slovak Republic it is necessary to book an appointment in advance through our e-mail address. The application will be considered during the set appointment, and the applicant will also undergo an interview.

Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Nairobi is eligible to accept the residence applications submitted by citizens of:

  • countries accredited for the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Nairobi: Republic of Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, State of Eritrea, Union of the Comoros, Republic of Congo, Republic of Kenya, Republic of Rwanda, Republic of Seychelles, Federal Republic of Somalia, Republic of South Sudan, United Republic of Tanzania and Republic of Uganda

  • countries accredited for the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Abuja: Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Gambia, Gabon, Cape Verde, Sao Tome and Principe, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Benin, Togo, Mali

 

Temporary residence

Temporary residence shall enable a third country national to stay, exit and re-enter the Slovak Republic territory during the period of time as specified by a police department, usually for the period of stay over 90 days within 180 days. With regard to the Act No 404/2011 Coll. on Residence of Aliens and Amendment and Supplementation of Certain Acts, temporary residence is always granted for only one specific purpose and only exceptionally entitles a third country national to perform other activities as well.

 

It may be granted for the purpose of business, employment, studies, special activity (lecturing, sports, artistic, volunteering activity etc.), research and development, family reunion or performing professional duties by civilian units of the armed forces, to a person with acknowledged status of a Slovak Living Abroad or to a person with acknowledged long-term residence in another EU Member State. For the first time temporary residence may be granted for various periods depending on the purpose for which it was granted and may be extended repeatedly.

 

Permanent residence

Permanent residence entitles a third country national to stay in the territory of the Slovak Republic within the period for which it was granted, and to perform activities almost in the same scope as the citizens of the SR. It entitles a foreigner to travel abroad and back, work, do business, study or have access to health care and social security.

There are 3 types of permanent residence: permanent residence for five years, permanent residence for unlimited time period and a long-term residence.

The application fee is paid directly at the place of submitting your application in cash and in local currency (Kenyan Shilling).

Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Nairobi draws the attention of residence applicants to the need to present a valid travel document in compliance with the Act No 404/2011 of 21 October 2011, on Residence of Aliens and Amendment and Supplementation of Certain Acts. According to the Article 2 (1) k) a valid travel document shall be understood as a passport or other public document, if acknowledged as a travel document by the Slovak Republic, valid, enabling unambiguous identification of its holder, with untouched integrity and undamaged so that the included records are illegible.
