Text of Global Compact on Migration is endorsed by UN in New York

Today (13 July), at the UN General Assembly, its member states endorsed the final text of the so-called Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Legal Migration. It is a result of an almost two years of thematic discussions and consultations among the UN member states with the ambition to cover all aspects of the migration phenomenon and represents the first ever document prepared by the UN on this issue. The process of consultations on the global compact on migration was complicated; the representatives of the member states and regional groupings presented different attitudes on the topic of migration; therefore the final document that will be formally adopted in Morocco in December this year at an intergovernmental conference is a compromise and represents the common denominator of interests of all participating states.
