It is necessary that the dialogue and peace come back to diplomacy “Mutual support, communication, the creation and strengthening of partnerships have never played such an important role as they do now, during this time of significant geopolitical changes and security threats. Therefore, multilateralism, which is the global cooperation of countries, is one of the core pillars and it is necessary that a dialogue, applying the same standards and peace appear once again in diplomacy dictionaries,” emphasized Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Juraj Blanár today on the occasion of the International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace.

Last year, the Slovak Republic participated in 16 foreign missions, operations and other international crisis management activities involving 460 members of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic (AF SR), the Police Force of the Slovak Republic and civilian experts. The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic provided information about this in the Report on the activities of the Slovak Republic in international crisis management activities for the year 2023, which was taken note of by the Government of the Slovak Republic during its 26th session today (3 April 2024).

The Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Juraj Blanár, received the heads of four international organisations operating in Slovakia under the United Nations (UN) on 13 March 2024. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the World Health Organisation (WHO).

State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Marek Eštok, addressed the 55th session of the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council in Geneva today (28 February 2024), attended by more than a hundred representatives of states and international organisations. The State Secretary also addressed the Conference on Disarmament, held on the same day at the UN Headquarters in Switzerland. This was the first time in five years that a high-ranking official representing Slovakia had attended both meetings in person.

On 9 February 1993, the independent Slovak Republic became a member of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). On the occasion of the 31st anniversary of Slovakia's accession to UNESCO, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Juraj Blanár, highlighted Slovakia's activities and prestigious achievements in one of the most renowned specialised agencies in the United Nations system.

This year´s first meeting of Greek-Cypriot and Turkish-Cypriot political parties representatives under the auspices of the Slovak Embassy, with the participation of 11 political entities, was held on 31 January 2024 at the Ledra Palace hotel, in the „bufferzone“. Attendees discussed on the topic proposed by the hosting party – United Cyprus Republican Party (ERKK): “The role of the Transitional Justice in reconciliation in Cyprus”.

Thirty-one years ago, an independent Slovak Republic was admitted to the United Nations (UN) as a full member. On 19 January 2024, in commemoration of the anniversary of Slovakia's accession to the United Nations, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Juraj Blanár, stressed the importance of Slovakia's inclusion in the international organisation, which currently associates 193 countries of the world.

On 15 November 2023, the Slovak Republic was elected as a member of the UNESCO Executive Board during the 42nd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Paris. The Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Juraj Blanár, welcomes Slovakia's election to the Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) for the period 2023-2027.

As a member of the Slovak delegation, he accompanied the President of the Slovak Republic Zuzana Čaputová.

450 guests, including five members of the Government of the Republic of Cyprus, the classical music concert performed by three Slovak artists, the inauguration of the photographic panel exhibition and the brochure marking three decades on bilateral relations - are the quintessence of the event held on the occasion of both anniversaries on 5 September 2023 at the Municipal Theatre in Nicosia.

The United States of America submitted a letter of acceptance of the Constitution of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) at the depository in London, thus officially becoming 194th member state of this specialized UN agency.
